der Admiral The Admiral : Roaring Currents (Hangul: 명량; RR: Myeongnyang)) is South Korean movie that was opened in July 30, 2014. The movie is briefly about Battle of Myeongnyang and was directed and co-written by Kim Han min and starring Choi Min-sik..[1][2][3] As it recorded the 10 million viewers in 12 days, it was recorded as the shortest movie that achieved 10 million viewers. Handlung In the 16th century, a general called Toyotomi Hideyoshi unified Japan and the long civil war in Japan was ended. At that time, most of Koreans didn't think about any possibility of invasion from Japan and ignored the war-readiness of Japan. Therefore, army and Korean Navy except for the admiral Yi Sun Sin were not prepared for any invasion from Japan. Only admiral Yi Sun Sin prepared for a war against Japan by building up ships and developing weapons. In the year 1592, Imjin War was broken out as Japan invaded Korea. From the beginning of the war, Japanese army which were well experienced through their civil war were easily defeating Korean army and quickly advancing to the north. However, on the sea, the admiral Yi Sun Sin of Joseon destroyed Japanese naval fleets in many battles consecutively so that Japanese navy's advance to the west and north was frustrated and Japanese supply line on sea route were not open at all. However in 1597 due to Japanese espionage plot and political conspiracy in Korean royal court, the Admiral Yi Sun Sin got imprisoned by Korean government and another admiral (Won Gyun) was appointed to command Korean navy. The admiral Won attacked Japanese navy but was seriously defeated by Japan and lost most of the warships (more than 200 warships). After this defeat, Korean government released admiral Yi and put him back to the position of the admiral which had only 13 warships after the serious defeat. Korea government suggested the admiral Yi that he give up sea battle but join any ground battle. But the admiral Yi insisted that he should prevent Japanese navy from advancing via sea route. In October 1597, Japanese fleet of 330 ships tried to attack small Korean fleet of 13 ships. This is the battle of Myeongyang. As Japanese moved toward Korean fleet, Admiral Yi enticed Japanese fleet to a long and narrow strait which has fast and strong wave flow and he hampered Japanse fleet’s navigating by blocking the strait with steel chain. Therefore, many Japanese ships gathered and stuck in the narrow strait together before and after. The cannons on Korean warships outside the strait bombarded the Japanese ships. Japanese fleet lost more than 31 warships and retreated to the east and they finally gave up advancing toward the west by the sea.[ zitat quelle: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Admir ... g_Currents |
